After living and working in Lindi, South East Tanzania with VSO for 3 years Steve and Sue Scorer could not leave without continuing the help they had started to give to local people in need. Initially this was in the form of sponsoring two local children to attend the only English Medium Primary School in the town. With the help of friends and family this number has now grown to six. Other projects have followed as funds have been raised.
As a registered charity we operate very efficiently, your donation will make a difference to children and adults in Lindi. We are driven and supported by volunteers and we pride ourselves on having personal contact with all those we assist.
The Matt Green basketball court
A big thank you to all those who donated to Friends of Lindi in memory of our Trustee Matt Green following his sad death in August 2022.
We are so pleased to report that with such a generous amount of money donated we were able to organise the re-surfacing and painting of the community basketball court in Lindi. It now looks amazing and is being enjoyed by a large number of young men and women in the town.
We visited in November 2022 to see the finished court and spoke to the volunteer coaches who have ambitious plans to build a strong team for young men and women in the town.
A right to be loved
Working with Joy School Lindi we wanted to encourage the expansion of the curriculum beyond the rote learning of facts for examinations and tests. We asked for permission from Song Academy in London to use their music and lyrics of A Right to be Loved. Sue used her music teaching skills to form a choir with the teachers and teach the children in Joy School this song with very fitting lyrics – they sum up the lot of so many children in Tanzania. It was filmed by a friend, Philip Bornschleigel, a German paediatrician volunteering in Lindi. It features some of our sponsored children and also shows some of the daily routine in Lindi.
Watch, listen and enjoy!
Thank you to all who supported our live music event, helping us to raise over £1,000 for our vital work.
